Extreme Hammocking, High Peaks or Throw Up in your Mouth

CHILLING LIKE A VILLAIN 650 FEET IN THE AIR IS A HIGH FOR HEIGHTS

Extreme, according to the dictionary, is defined as reaching a high or the highest degree; very great.  A hammock is a bed made of canvas or of rope mesh and suspended by cords at the ends.  People use it as garden furniture or on board a ship. But extreme hammocking is relaxing 650 feet in the air and chilling like a villain. This has become a unique and addictive pastime to take part in.  And those who are doing it are loving it. The Drill and Chill Climbing Festival are doing it, so how about you?  Unless heights make you want to throw up, then maybe find a safer past time.

EXTREME HAMMOCKING A COMMUNITY CULTURE FOR OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS

There are festivals such as The Drill and Chill Climbing Festival where communities of people get together and put together 250 feet of hammock above a canyon and chill. They hang out in these high heights and rock in their comfy hammocks, hopefully without shitting themselves in fear of falling. The hammocking people don’t actually sleep in their hammocks. If you’re anything like me in their sleep, that would mean death.  I still fall off my bed, kind of thing…  They actually do the high height climbs during the day and stay at a basecamp in the evenings.  There they have all the amenities they need, like showers, restrooms and food.  Although, there is plenty of film with people snacking in their hammocks. That’s what we call extreme love of hammocking.

TEN DAYS OF EXTREME HIGHS, OR YOU THROW UP FOR FEAR OF FALLING

The festival takes place in Bosnia.  It’s “ten days of bolting, climbing, nature and nights at the fire.  A celebration of a European climbing culture and their spirit of vertical pioneering.”  The founders started it to “combat the status quo”.  It’s also a way to connect climbers and outdoor enthusiasts from Western Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina, to share their knowledge and experience.  The videos online are amazing.  And if that is all you can watch regarding hammocking, then stick with that.  But if you watch it and aren’t throwing up, then maybe you need to try this extreme hobby.  If the shoe fits, wear it!
