ERICK ERICKSON DOTH PROTEST GAY RIGHTS TOO MUCH

Erick Erickson — so good they named him twice — is so dogfuckingly brilliant at being an extremist right wing religious bigot that he’s called upon the readers of his RedState blog to donate to him. Not just so he can eradicate the scourge of homosexuality in these United States…but also to help pass a law to criminalize homosexuality…in Belize.

On August 22, Erickson posted a rambling and contentious blog post called (and curiously punctuated) “Losing The Battle. Winning…” which talks about the “brave” Elaine Huguenin, a photographer in New Mexico who — dear readers! — refused to take pictures of a lesbian couple’s commitment ceremony. Lesbians! Quelle beast!

Well, Vanessa Willock, one of the members of the aforementioned lesbian couple (rightfully) decided to file a discrimination lawsuit. The New Mexico Supreme Court ruled in favor of LGBT rights and Vanessa Willock, saying:

At its heart, this case teaches that at some point in our lives all of us must compromise, if only a little, to accommodate the controlling value of others. That compromise is part of the glue that holds us together as a nation, the tolerance that lubricates the varied moving parts of us as a people….In short, I would say to the Huguenins, with the utmost respect: it is the price of citizenship.

Seems pretty reasonable, right? Wrong. Erickson — who seems so vehemently against gay rights that one must wonder if he’s so far into the closet he’s found Narnia — retaliated by calling gays “evil” and by insisting that roving bands of gays will “silence good.” He then goes on to say that you should donate to the Alliance Defending Freedom organization.

What’s weird about this is that the ADF has its fingers in a lot of pies, and sadly, none of those of the fur variety. The ADF is heavily involved in the eradication of gay rights worldwide, and mask it by saying that it’s fighting for Christian beliefs.

What does “impeding on religious beliefs” have to do with not allowing others to have their own equal rights, too? When will the religious right understand that we live in a big Venn diagram, not a regimented set of rows and columns?

The ADF touts itself as winning cases for the “Christian minorities” yet loses on a fairly consistent basis, while turning its losses into some sort of “this is another example of why we need more money to win the fight!” argument. It operates the same way the Christian extremist churches run: guilting their constituents into giving them money every week so they can win an imagined war against an intangible enemy. As long as there’s a “them” to our “us” and the money is flowing, the logic seems to be, why stop fighting?

It seems Erick Erickson is so die-hard against the thought of others being in love that one can only assume that this is all due to Erickson’s own unrequited love for another man. What could possibly make someone so closed-minded?
