OHIO SENTENCES ELDERLY WOMAN WITH JAIL TIME FOR FEEDING STARVING CATS

So this is what the world of justice in the United States has come to?  There’s a 79-year-old woman from Garfield Heights, Ohio, who doesn’t’ like seeing stray cats starve.  So what does she do?  She feeds them.  But that, evidently, is a crime that needs punishment.  So this elderly woman now face jail time for the egregious offense of feeding stray cats.  So way to go, Ohio!  First you stand out in several of the most recent Presidential elections as a state that steals votes from minorities.  Well, ok, there’s more crazy injustices in Ohio than that.  But jailing an elderly woman for feeding stray cats?

SENTENCE MORE TIME THAN FOR CRUELTY TO ANIMALS AND NEGLIGENCE

So cat lovers all over the world are certain to be really pissed about this.  Shoot, even dog lovers should be too.  But why dog lovers?  Well, because a court sentenced Nancy Segula to ten days in jail for feeding stray cats.  But guess what kind of crimes (recently!) got less jail time?  Starving dogs for one.  Strangling a cat is another.  But how about leaving kittens in a sealed hot car?  That’s right, all of those crimes got less jail time.  And those involve negligence and animal cruelty.  But feed some starving animals that you can see suffering right outside your door?  10 days for an elderly woman.

STATE BACKTRACKS ON JAIL TIME AFTER NATIONAL OUTRAGE OVER UNFAIR JAIL SENTENCE

So way to go, Ohio.  You are a beacon of flaming bullshit in a land without any reasonableness.  But there’s an update, at least.  Now that this story went viral, an outcry predictably happened across the country.  The courts have decided that Segula won’t do any jail time.  Instead, she has to attend mental health counseling and alter her property to deter the stray cats.  But here’s some more food for thought.  There are programs to catch and neuter strays so they can’t reproduce (and so, starve).  But those programs are also against the law.

Lastly, most of the strays have been caught and they will all find homes.  The last two at large will also find homes.  Segula will adopt one of the last two.
