60 SEIZURES PER DAY REDUCED TO 4 PER YEAR
Parents of a girl suffering up to 60 seizures per day, have slowed the number and have told us how this nightmare ended. All thanks to avocados and a ketogenic diet . Correct, thanks to avocados. A five year old named Leafy Liu was born with an unspecified brain disorder which led to the terrifying number of seizures but now thanks to a change in her dies, she only suffers four a year.
FIVE YEAR OLD SAVED BY DIET OF AVOCADOS
Leafy’s mom Claire, 39, is a nutritional advisor and gave us the back story. She said: “Until six months old, Leafy was an standard, ordinary baby. But then she had her first seizure, and everything changed. LOW CARBS REDUCE RISK
Experts believe the way the body burns up carbs can trigger fits, so switching to a high fat, low-carb diet can reduce that risk. But doctors don’t know why. As well as avocado, meat, eggs, spinach, kale, broccoli and cauliflower are recommended – with other foods. But Leafy has taken to avocados and Claire and Justin, have spent 1,500 on 3,000 of them in the last year. The parents said “Where once she would have 60 minor seizures a day, it dropped dramatically. “Now she has four a year, it’s a miracle.”
KETOGENIC DIET MIGHT WORK FOR EVERYONE
“Along with salmon, avocado is probably her favorite thing to eat.” Great Ormond Street Hospital says the ketogenic diet has been shown to improve seizure control in patients with drug resistant epilepsy. And it advises close supervision. Parents considering the diet must consult a GP. Avocados, from warm and tropical areas, originated in Mexico and is seen as a superfood.
