DUTCH TOWN SUES TWITTER TO STOP CONSPIRACY THEORY IT’S HOME TO PEDOPHILE CULT
Have you heard of Satanic Panic? It’s what we now call the mass hysteria from the 1980’s and 90’s, when people freaked out about supposed ritual murders, devil worship sex abuse, Satanists in child care centers/entertainment/everywhere. It was a rightwing trope to gin up fear and get terrified voters to the polls to vote for their republican candidates. Well, Satanic Panic is back and maybe never left. The latest example of this is a Dutch town that is suing Twitter over conspiracy theories that it is home to a pedophile cult. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s a good idea for the town of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk.

PEDOPHILE CULT CONSPIRACY BORN FROM EARLY 80’S HISTORY, HAVE GONE VIRAL IN LAST 2 YEARS
So where are these conspiracy theories coming from? False reports that the Dutch town was where the abuse and murder of multiple children happened. Back in the 1980’s, of course. Three men first circulated these false claims back in 2020. The worst of them grew up in a nearby town near the Hague, who said he witnessed these crimes when he was a child. But the Dutch town isn’t happy about the attention, as these “crimes” never actually happened. But Twitter blew up the allegations into a conspiracy theory that is only growing, and the town wants all related posts removed to stop it.

But that’s where the Dutch town runs into a problem. Satanic Panic is no longer just exclusively a rightwing, American disease anymore. Idiots from almost anywhere are subscribing to anything salacious, with Satanist pedophiles. Publicly suing Twitter makes sense, if it was 20 or 30 years ago (when it wouldn’t matter). But by suing Twitter in public, the Dutch town is only throwing rocket fuel on the bonfire. Just the fact that they deny the conspiracy will convince Kool Aid drinking idiots that it’s even more real.
