DANIEL RAWLS GOT DRUNK, GOT HURT, SUED BAR FOR GETTING HIM DRUNK, WINS $5.5 MILLION!?
I suppose we can chalk this one onto the huge board of our litigious society’s foolishness. In other words, we the people in the United States do like to sue for just about anything. But ambulance chasers may have to create a whole new subphylum of lawsuit ideas with this news from the Lone Star state. Back on May 21, 2019, Daniel Rawls and Robert Henrickson had a lot to drink at the La Fogata bar and restaurant in Andres, Texas. And by a lot, the two drunk idiots had some kind of one on one brawl in the parking lot outside. Rawls had injuries to his head as a result. Somehow, he won a lawsuit against La Fogata with an award of $5.5 million?

ONLY AN IDIOT COULD COME UP WITH THIS FINANCE STRATEGY, AND SOME JUDGE REWARDED RAWLS
So there are clearly some issues that aren’t totally clear here. Somehow, the bar lost this lawsuit because first, they served both men too many drinks (after they were clearly already drunk). Secondly, the bar’s owner and bartender let both men leave together. And, third, they didn’t call for an ambulance after Rawls suffered injuries to his head. I’d say I was of 2 minds on this, but I don’t have a head injury from being drunk and getting in a fight in a bar’s parking lot. But $5.5 million seems a tad excessive to me. But there is, of course, more to Rawls’ story.

RAWLS ALSO FACES OTHER CHARGES FOR ONE DUI, TWO PUBLIC INTOXICATIONS, WILL HE SUE AGAIN AND WIN?
So yes, serving excessive alcohol to already drunk people is a no-no, with good reason. And letting two idiots you let get too drunk leave together is not a great idea either. But mostly, not calling an ambulance for a head injury, drunk or no, is the worst look for La Fogata. But considering that earlier this month, police arrested and charged Rawls with a DUI provides some other context. And, well, he has charges from May of this year and February of 2019 for public intoxication as well. There seems to be a pattern here. I’m not sure what giving an addict $5.5 million for being an idiot will do to help.
So let’s just see if he sues the police for his DUI and public drunkenness and wins some more money? Clearly, that knock to his head gave Daniel Rawls some bad ideas which turned into a disturbing payday.
