Dr Dre Tries to Cock Block Gynecologist Dr Drai

GYNECOLOGIST DR DRAI BEATS DR DRE IN TRADEMARK SPAT

Dr. Dre, meet Dr. Drai.  Uma, meet Oprah.  But this time it’s a little different.  Una never had a trademark dispute with Oprah.  If you already didn’t know, Dr. Dre is a hip-hop star.  But he’s also an icon.  So you likely never heard of Dr Drai before, unless you are a woman and were one of his patients.  Dr Drai is a gynecologist who practices in the state of Pennsylvania.  So what’s the fuss?  Well, Dr. Drai, or Draion M. Burch, tried to trademark the name Dr Drai back in 2015.  Hip-hop Dr. Dre didn’t like that idea when he heard about it.  So Dr Dre went to court to block Dr. Drai’s bid to be, um, Dr. Drai.  But the US trademark office just ruled against Dr. Dre and in favor of Dr. Drai.  (Note: please don’t read this out loud, cause it won’t make any sense.)

COURT SAYS NO, CONSUMERS CAN’T CONFUSE DRAI WITH DRE, GYNECOLOGY WITH HIP-HOP

So Dr Dre tried the position that Dr Drai’s trademark bid would cause confusion.  But more than the same phonetics, Dr. Drai also wanted to sell seminars and audio books, making him competition (um, sort of) to Dr Dre.  But the court didn’t pussyfoot around and ruled against Dr Dre and for the gynecologist Dr. Drai.  So most notably the court said that Dr Dre didn’t show how his market could be misled into buying products from the gynecologist.  But the logic was sound.  How does someone get confused between a hip-hop artist and an actual medical doctor in the marketplace?

DR DRE FINDS DR DRE MISOGYNISTIC ANYWAY, WANTS NO ASSOCIATION

Here’s some more background about Dr. Drai.  He’s written a few books.  One of the more notable titles is 20 Things You May Not Know About A Vagina.  So does that make you think about Dr. Dre?  Nah, me neither.  But Dr. Drai doesn’t like Dr. Dre’s brand, anyways.  In testimony, he referred to Dr. Dre’s lyrics as misogynistic as well as homophobic.  He thinks the comparison would be “a bad reflection on me as a doctor.”  So if you find this confusing just keep this in mind.  Don’t buy any medical products or literature from Dr. Dre.  Next, don’t buy a pair of Beats from Dr. Drai.  You just don’t know where they might have been.
