Disney Resorts Kill Privacy in Rooms for Security

DISNEY RESORTS NO LONGER ALLOW “DO NOT DISTURB SIGNS” FOR ROOMS

I’m not sure how to feel about this.  Disney has announced that it is changing its security policies at all of their resorts.  Disney Resorts will no longer have Do Not Disturb Signs available for its guests to use for their rooms.  But even more, Disney Resorts now also requires their employees to enter every hotel room once every day.  According to Disney, this will ensure the safety and security of all its guests and properties.  Does it kill privacy just a bit for paying visitors?  You bet.

SECURITY AGAIN TO KILL PRIVACY, DECREASE LIABILITY

To date the new policies are already in effect at the Grand FlorIdian, the Polynesian and Contemporary resorts.  But soon all Disney resorts will operate with this change.  But so far people staying at the resorts are having mixed reactions.  One commenter said, “It’s like your house whenever you’re traveling, so you should be able to have that privacy.”  Another seemed to be on the fence, saying, “at what point do you not have a door anymore?”  But went on to say they thought it was a good security measure.  “They need to be aware of what’s going on for the safety of all guests staying.”

PRESCREEN HOTEL VISITORS LIKE IN AN AIRPORT?

But the second commenter also thinks that some sort of security compromise could be applied.  Namely, that a screening process be used, similar to security in airports. “Mr. and Mrs. Jones are already prescreened, we’re not going to invade their privacy. If not you don’t, maybe they have the right to barge in.”  Would that really work?  Regardless, Disney wants access to all their rooms, every day.

DISNEY WON’T SAY IT, BUT IT’S THEIR VEGAS SHOOTING RESPONSE

So far, Disney’s officials haven’t explained the rationale for the change.  But it’s obvious to everyone that this is their response to the deadly Las Vegas shooting last year.  But even more logically, Disney officials did say that monorail resorts offer elevated vantages over a lot of crowded areas.

YET ANOTHER RESPONSE THAT DOESN’T MENTION GUN REGULATION

Yet another visitor commented, “I don’t know about Disney because it’s a family place. I don’t know but I could see it happening in other hotels.”  That seems a little naïve, and that commenter’s wife agrees.  She said that violence can happen pretty much anywhere at any time.  But oddly, no one responded with any opinions about the gun laws in the US.  The ease that anyone can buy extremely deadly weapons seems to be the source of the danger.  But does this change protect us from another deadly shooting?  Or does it protect Disney’s liability insurance cost?

DO NOT DISTURB GUN OWNER’S PRIVACY ALIVE AND WELL

Since gun regulations seems to be insanely far away for now, security measures at resorts and hotels will reduce privacy for all paying patrons.  But not to worry, privacy rights for gun owners and purchasers will continue in high fashion!  But you’ll no longer be able to count on a Do Not Disturb sign any more at Disney Resorts.  No more naked afternoon naps in the afternoon!  Yet another step has been taken to kill privacy in the name of security.  And yet again, we ask, is it worth it?  The answer is hard to find.
