San Diego Zoo Safari Park Gorillas Catch Covid, Have Positive Tests

GORILLAS AT SAN DIEGO SAFARI PARK ZOO CATCH COVID, MAY BE IN DANGER

So I had heard about dogs getting Covid.  And minks as well.  Dogs with Covid are a mixed bag.  But minks?  They’re so vulnerable to it that mink farmers have been culling them everywhere.  But now, we have yet another animal group that has positive Covid tests.  Gorillas.  Yes, some poor gorillas now have Covid!  It’s not good news, that for sure.  So far, reports say that as many as 8 gorillas at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park have Covid infections.  For animal lovers and those who love gorillas especially, this is maybe(?) dire news.

AUTHORITIES SUSPECT GORILLAS CAUGHT COVID FROM HANDLERS, EVEN WITH FACE MASKS

So how the hell did the San Diego Zoo gorillas get Covid?  Well, so far, authorities assume that one of the handlers must have given it to them.  And yes, before you freak out, they were all taking all the proper safety precautions, wearing PPE like masks, etc.  Unlike some Republicans in Congress, I might add.  But while research has indicated that some primates are definitely susceptible to the Coronavirus, this is the first time any great apes have become infected naturally.  As in, not in a laboratory.  Man, that distinction is dark, right?  But regardless, a few weeks ago two of the gorillas started coughing.  And the San Diego Zoo took note and did their due diligence to see what was happening.

AFTER GORILLAS STARTED COUGHING, ZOO TESTED GORILLA POO TO CONFIRM COVID-19

And, sure enough, they found traces of the virus in the gorilla poo.  So far, they have quarantined the gorillas as they should.  While zoo authorities hope that all the gorillas make a full recovery, it’s essentially anyone’s guess.  So far, the gorillas still have bad coughs and respiratory issues.  But they are all eating, drinking and don’t show any signs of serious symptoms.  But since gorillas with Covid is yet another frontier in this pandemic, we just don’t know.  Man, this pandemic rally can’t go away fast enough.
