DID ROCHESTER HUNTER EAT MAD SQUIRREL BRAINS?

So eating brains comes with some risks, it seems.  But so far we’re still not sure if the hunter ate the brains, or just squirrel meat with some contaminated brain matter.  It ain’t easy skinning varmint, is it?  But concerned family or friends brought the hunter to the hospital when he totally lost touch with reality.  He also couldn’t walk by himself at that point.  But a brain scan looked a lot like he had a form of mad cow disease (CJD).  So there are only three kinds of CJD.  But you can only catch one of those from bad…. Brains.  It involves infectious proteins, or prions, which cause lesions in our brains.  And no, there is no treatment or cure.  Period.  It’s the break it, you own it situation.  Except it’s your brain and life.

THE PROOF WILL BE IN THE PUDDING, OR “MORE BRAINS”

So far there have only been a few hundred cases of CJD reported anywhere.  But most of them were in England.  In the US, we’ve only heard of four cases, ever.  So for now, the hunter’s death is a “maybe” when it comes to mad squirrel disease.  Doctors are waiting to see his detailed medical records.  If the autopsy tested his brain, they’ll get a confirmation one way or the other.
