POACHER KILLED HUNDREDS OF DEER, NOW HAS TO WATCH BAMBI IN JAIL
Ok, it’s been just a while since I saw the ancient Disney movie, Bambi. And by a while, I mean I was a totally different height. So you’d think after a few decades that I would have seen a bit of it at least, by accident. But nope. Yet I do totally remember being horrified and dismayed at some of the emotional trauma the movie presented. But clearly, Lawrence County Judge Robert George remembers this as well. That’s why he sentenced a deer poacher to watch Bambi multiple times, in jail.

POACHER AND SONS CLEARLY LOVED TO KILL AND THE SPRAY OF BLOOD
So that’s kind of crazy, right? But then so is the crime the culprit committed. His name is David Berry. He and his sons killed maybe hundreds of deer, out of season, in the forests of southern Missouri. They did their killing mostly at night. They then cut the deer heads off and left the rest of their bodies to rot where they lay. That ain’t hunting. That’s just killing. According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, Randy Doman, “Taking just the heads is their version of obtaining a ‘trophy’ and leaving the carcass behind is merely an afterthought. While there are some cases where poachers go after the antlers for profit, with this bunch it was more about the thrill of the kill itself.”

So that’s probably why Judge George sentenced the Berry family and other poachers to watch the Disney classic at least once a month in jail for over a year. Now that’s a harsh punishment! But consider what this guy and his two sons did. Over the course of a decade they killed a helluva lot of deer. But you really have to love killing to do this several times a month. Then you decapitate the animal and leave the rest to rot in the woods.
So run, Bambi Run indeed.
