Winter cold equals cracked burning lips. When autumn comes around I begin to cringe. Winter is coming. Thus, my lips will start cracking for many days up until the end of March. Arg. And grrrr. How can we beat the cold with luscious and smooth feeling lips? There are reasons other than cold weather conditions, but the elements are also a huge contributor to the chapped and cracked lip situation. But luckily there are ways to prevent and improve the feeling of yummy lips! Like wearing the right lip balm and hydrating a lot. Take a look at some of our awesome tips to fix those lips.
LIPS DON’T PRODUCE OIL, USE THESE AWESOME TIPS
One important fact is that your lips don’t produce oil. This means that your lips will be naturally drier than the rest of the skin on your body. Winter elements will also contribute to cracked and burning lips. Your lips are vulnerable. Start with ensuring that you have a scarf to cover your lips on the very windy days. You can also prevent dryness by investing in a moisturizing pillowcase. These are terrific in keeping your entire face feeling like a baby’s bottom all winter long. The moisturizer will also greatly benefit your lips.
CRACKED AND BURNING LIPS MAY BE DUE TO ALLERGIES
Various auto-immune conditions and hypothyroidism can also contribute to dry, cracked and burning lips. Allergies can also play a role in lip challenges. If you wear braces or if you snore, this can also be a big reason for your lip issues. We cautiously advise you to see a doctor if no over the counter remedy works. STOP LICKING YOUR LIPS
You really need to stop licking your lips. They will only get dryer. If it’s a bad habit you have, then apply a moisturizing lip balm that contains lanolin. It will stay on longer than a Vaseline based lip balm. We strongly suggest you avoid flavored lip balms, because these promote licking of the lips.
GET THE RIGHT LIP BALM
Where the right lip balm. Lip balms with bases of almond oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, will be soothing. Beezwax based lip balms are also a terrific option. Look for quality lip balms, without the expensive price tag. However, if you find something that works and actually lasts, it may be worth the investment.
HUMIDIFY THE AIR OF YOUR HOME
Consider getting a humidifier. These are terrific for keeping the air moist. It’s good to keep levels at 30 to 40 percent, in order to save you from dry, cracked and burning lips. You don’t need to run the humidifier all day long, night time will suffice.
Try not to exfoliate too much during the cold seasons. Exfoliating during this time is way to sensitive for your lips. The worst thing is to have bleeding lips, along with cracked, dry and burning lips. And camphor, phenol and menthol are actually irritants and should be avoided. Really take the time to read the ingredients.
