PARTY POOPERS! SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES IN POLAND KILL THE 666 BUS TO THE TOWN OF HEL
Some people like to say they’ve gone to hell and back. Shoot, I’ve even said it myself a few times, usually as part of a collective like, “we’ve been to hell and back.” But there are actually a few places on Earth with the name hell. Or, in this case, Hel, Poland. I’ve never been there. But I must say, if I was a casual tourist in Poland, I’d be sore tempted to take the 666 bus to Hel. And back, of course. And, of course, it would be even more fun to take the 666 bus to Hel with friends, and then we could say… Well, you get the idea. But the conservatives have ruined the fun.

TOURISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD LOVED THE 666 BUS TO HEL AND BACK
But while Poland is a very Catholic, Christian, country, the 666 bus to Hel has been around since 2006. It started as a joke, of course. But it quickly became a very popular tourist attraction. People would come from all over the world, just to take the bus to Hel. And back, presumably! It was, and would have remained, popular for the foreseeable future. But Polish (social) conservatives have had it in for the 666 bus for some time, and pulled out their metaphorical pitchforks to get the local bus company to change the number.

A Polish Catholic publication, Fronda, has lamented the existence of the 666 bus for years, saying that it had Stanic overtones. They’ve wanted the number changed, arguing that “to present the reality of eternal damnation as amusing in any way is just plain stupidity.” Ah, well. Trust the prurient squares to ruin a totally novel fun thing for everyone. Oh, and let’s see what the tourism numbers are like by this time next year, right? I’m guessing that the town of Hel, Poland isn’t going to be quite as popular, or the new, 669 bus.
Too bad the bus to Hel couldn’t be 69…..
