YOUNG CONGRESSIONAL AIDE FIRED ONE DAY AFTER GAY SEX VID IN SENATE GOES VIRAL
Oy, I don’t know where to begin with this story, except to say it defies belief that it happened at all. If you hadn’t already heard, a Congressional Aide was fired from his job just a day after a video of him having gay sex in the Senate (room) went viral on Friday. He’s 24 years old and his name is Aidan Maese-Czeropski. He worked for Maryland Senator (D) Ben Cardin. A spokesperson for Cardin said, “Aidan Maese-Czeropski is no longer employed by the US Senate. We will have no further comment on this matter.” And that there tells you all you need to know; this story is politically toxic, which means some people want it to remain viral, and others want it gone like yesterday.

Or, in this case, the day before yesterday. But I have a couple thoughts as an initial reaction. First, there is no way this is the first time someone has had sex in the Senate (room, not the body politic, though there are a few great puns there). I doubt it’s even the first time anyone has recorded sex there! Though it may be the first time such a recording has leaked and gone viral. Second, there is obviously a sexual orientation (gay sex!) issue here politically. But even more, there is a generational issue here. Kids (these days) make decisions older people never would when it comes to photographing or videoing themselves naked or in situ.

And that generational reality is going to continue to make salacious headlines until the idea of open, digitalized sexuality as a near permanent history becomes normal. And no, I don’t see that happening anytime soon. But while I can’t identify with the choice to record oneself having sex in public, especially not center of American government public, I can sympathize with a very young adult whose life just changed forever. I mean, think about this poor kid. Everyone knows his name now, and it’s going to be radioactive in association with “gay sex,” “Democrat,” and “sex tape.”
