ELECTION! Colorado Voters Choose to Bring Back Grey Wolves

COLORADO VOTERS PASS PROPOSITION TO RE-INTRODUCE GREY WOLVES BACK INTO THE WILD

So Biden and Trump?  Nah, this isn’t that kind of election news.  Voters all across the country made choices on a host of issues.  Recreational use Marijuana and so many, many others.  But this one makes me happy, and I’m not a constituent with a local opinion.  But I do like wolves.  And I don’t like all the damage we as human beings have done to both their habitat and to them directly.  Like, in Colorado, which hasn’t had a local population of grey wolves in years and years.  Why?  Because we killed them all.  And Colorado voters just went to the ballot to bring them back!

COLORADO HAS MISSED GREY WOLVES FOR DECADES AFTER HUMANS KILLED THEM ALL

So if you’re not a cattle rancher or animal husbander of any kind, you likely think this is great news, too.  Because wolves are a huge part of the natural world, especially North America.  And wolves missing from the wild just isn’t ok.  They are wild and amazing creatures.  And the grey wolf is a spectacular specimen.  And the only reason they’ve been missing in Colorado for decades is because of us.  So Colorado voters took action, barely passing Proposition 114.  It’s the first time a ballot measure has legally required a state to re-introduce animals.

URBAN COLORADO VOTERS CHOSE TO BRING THEM BACK, JUST AS TRUMP DE-PROTECTED THEM

So where will these grey wolves end up and when?  Well, in Colorado, of course.  But in the mountainous parts of the state, west of the continental divide.  They’ll be back there by the end of 2023.  Not coincidentally, supporters of the measure tend to be from urban areas.  But the cattle ranchers, farmers, hunters and rural residents shouldn’t be too impacted by their return.  Why?  Because this has already happened in Canada, to no ill effects.  And, well, the timing is important.  Because Trump, again.  Just last week, the Trump Administration removed grey wolves from the endangered species list.

See?  Voting matters!
