NEW VIRAL TIKTOK TREND HAS KIDS SETTING THEIR CHROMEBOOKS ON FIRE, CAUSING EVACUATIONS
Man, I feel older for knowing about this. I mean, I’ve heard of trends and even viral trends of things that made no sense to me. I vaguely remember the early years of these, like when people did planks all over the place, took pictures and posted them. That I kind of understood, especially doing planks in amazing places. But then people started getting hurt doing planks in stupid places. But the latest TikTok viral trend makes me feel old, because literally wtf? Cause this trend has kids are literally setting Chromebooks on fire and posting the videos.

But there are, besides rampant youthful herd mentality stupidity, some issues. Like (you know) how these Chromebooks belong to these kids’ schools for one. And then there’s the little issue of how burning electronics, computers especially, create toxic smoke that’s absolutely terrible for anyone who breathes it in. And in Connecticut alone, burning Chromebooks and their toxic smoke has already caused several schools to evacuate everyone for general safety. It almost makes me long for the “good old days” when all I had to worry about was a NYC gang making trouble when school let out.

And even worse, this viral TikTok trend is being driven with How To’s literally telling kids how easy it is to set their Chromebooks on fire with materials readily available in almost any classroom. All they have to do is stick something conductive, like a graphite pencil or even just a paperclip, into an innocent Chromebook’s USB port. That’s literally all it takes! YouTube and TikTok are taking down these videos. But it’s digital whack-a-mole, because it’s still easy to find new instructional videos turning regular kids into school arsonists.
