WHAT IS CAUSING YOUR STINKY AND SMELLY FEET?  THIS IS!

All of our bodies are covered with sweat glands.  But some parts have a lot more than others, such as our legs.  So that’s one reason many people suffer from stinky and smelly feet.  When it’s chronic, it’s a condition called Bromhidrosis.  It’s annoying to pretty much everyone.  But if you suffer from it, it can be a confidence killer.  But don’t be confused about the cause.  Keep reading here to see what’s causing it and how to make it go away.

BACTERIA

The bacteria in the skin of our feet is called Propionibacteria. These bacteria produce an unpleasant acidic smell can be really noticeable.  But if you have sweaty feet these bacteria turn your sweat and skin into what smells like rotten cheese.  Not fun!

EXCESSIVE SWEATING

Excessive sweating is one of the biggest causes of bad foot odor.  But that doesn’t just happen in the legs and feet.  This excessive sweat is caused by the Eccrine gland.

TAKING DRUGS

Taking some drugs can be a cause of extra or excessive sweating.  And these can be normal over the counter or prescription drugs.  Common drugs like Paxil, Topomax and many others can trigger extra sweating.

FOOTWEAR, OR WHAT’S CALLED WEARING SHOES

Everyone should obviously wear shoes.  But wearing shoes all day long can cause foot odor.  Also obvious!  But why?  It’s called stacking sweat.  And it’s just what it sounds like.  You sweat.  Then you sweat some more. It accumulates in layers while your feet are confined.  This creates the perfect setting for the bacteria that make your feet stink.

IDENTIFY WHAT’S CAUSING YOUR STINKY FEET AND THEN TAKE ACTION

So what do you do if you have this problem?  Wearing shoes that allow your feet to breathe can make a big difference.  There are even winter boots that allow your sweat to evaporate out, which can be helpful.  But what kind of socks do you wear?  Socks need to let your feet breathe as well.  I swear by Smartwool socks, which offer options you can use year round.  Good socks can change your life.  But what else?  Washing your feet in anti-bacterial soap before and after you wear shoes can help with really smelly feet.  And, going back to socks, if you have excessive sweating, be sure to bring extra socks to reduce sweat stacking.
