AFTER 56 YEARS, TRUMP’S DOJ MOVES CANNABIS TO SCHEDULE III, JUST LIKE TYLENOL
I should be happy at this. But truth to be told, I’m rather torn. In fact, I can appreciate a stopped clock being right twice a day much more than giving Donald Trump credit for doing something right. And I can’t help but suspect that there will be an obvious. downside in the months or years to come, long after the worst president in American history is gone. And what is it that the orange ego has done, maybe right? The unexpected: Donald Trump’s DOJ has moved Cannabis to the same schedule as Tylenol. And no, this doesn’t make it legal federally, yet.
FOR GENERATIONS, CANNABIS HAS BEEN BLACKLISTED AS A DANGEROUS GATEWAY DRUG
So here’s what’s to know. Two days ago, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche put his signature on an order that moves FDA-covered cannabis products as well as state-licensed medical marijuana from Schedule 1 (which is where heroin and other “high potential for abuse” and “no currently accepted medical use” drugs are) all the way to Schedule III, which is where you can find such safe to use drugs like Tylenol and codeine. Cannabis has been proscribed in Schedule 1 for the last 56 years, labeled a gateway drug and a cause of moral turpitude.

BUT WHO WILL REALLY BENEFIT FROM THE DOJ MOVING CANNABIS INTO THE SAFE ZONE?
So now? Now, there’s a 30-day window where the order can be challenged and/or delayed. So there’s that. But Blanche has also called for a hearing in a little over a month to reclassify marijuana for even easier access and consumption. And no, to be fair, this move is about more than just Donald Trump, though he did order the start of the reclassification process last year. It was actually Joe Biden who initiated this, by prompting the review back in 2022. But when it comes to Trump, I have to ask myself, “who benefits?” Because someone who has Donald on speed dial is going to make a lot of money, and will likely command a major market share for years.
And then there’s another major development, which I will be talking about separately, soon. And that is the fact that just a week ago, Trump also signed another order, which opens up federally funded
psychedelic research.
Actually, maybe I do have to stick with a stopped clock is right twice. But not in a day; in a week.
