Canadian Couple Adopts a Potbellied Pig to Slaughter & Eat

ANIMAL SHELTER HORRIFIED AND SAD AFTER COUPLE  SLAUGHTER PIG

If you search for stories about cruelty they are very easy to find.  They can depress you about humanity, but remember that there are good people too. People who work hard to keep peace and love in the world.  Sadly, a family decided to do something very cruel and inhumane.  Staff at an animal shelter in Canada are horrified to learn that the family adopted a potbellied pig, only to slaughter and eat it a few weeks later.  The Canadian couple adopted the pig with another goal in mind than just having a pet.

MOLLY THE POTBELLIED PIG WAS SAVED ONLY TO BE ADOPTED BY AN AWFUL CANADIAN COUPLE

All the staff at the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were shocked to hear the news, according to worker Leon Davis.  Davis worked hard and lovingly to help bring back the potbellied pig Molly back to health after she and many other pigs ended up their care. Her previous owners abused her.  But Davis did all he could to save her.  The staff at the shelter thought they were sending Molly to a great home.  But this couple felt that keeping and caring for a pet pig much more difficult than they had imagined. So, they instead of bringing the big back, they slaughtered and ate their pet.

IT’S LEGAL TO EAT YOUR ANIMALS IN CANADA AND MOST STATES IN THE US

The investigators in this case determined that the couple killed the pig humanely and that the BC SPCA cannot do much in terms of action. In Canada, it is legal to kill your own animal.  Whereas animal cruelty laws differ from State to State in the United States.  However, in the US it is legal for people to kill and consume their pets, which include cats and dogs. The couple had signed a contract stating that they would not use the potbellied pig for food.  Breaching the contract was not a criminal offense.   Officials have  blacklisted the Canadian couple from adopting any other animals in British Columbia because they slaughtered their pet pig.
