GOAT FUND ME, THE CALIFORNIA CAMPAIGN TO FIGHT WILDFIRES
So only you can prevent forest fires. We, maybe now only you and your goat. So you better get your goat. But seriously, maybe it is true that only you and a goat can prevent forest fires. Because the wildfires that have devastated the state of California are all too likely to return. So what can anyone do? Seeing how much support Trump will give California the next months (are years really possible now?), what else could really make a difference? GOATS. That’s right, goats. And there’s a Goat Fund Me campaign to make it real. Someone really can get your goat. Or something.
NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA, SEES GOATS AS A REAL SOLUTION
So what can goats do? Well, a lot actually. What’s the biggest problem in California that makes these fires so dangerous? Dry brush. You know, that stuff that Trump says we need to Rake America Great Again? Sorry, I mean all that really flammable underbrush that makes these fires so much worse. And goats eat all that underbrush. So we could say goats are incredibly rakish figures. But seriously, goats could really help. A lot. Don’t be all baaaa humbug. And Nevada City, California is all in on getting your goats. Well, getting you to fund goats, anyway.
GOATS WORK CHEAP, THOUSANDS COULD SAVE MILLIONS EVERY YEAR
So Nevada City Vice Mayor Reinette Senum launched the Goat Fund Me campaign. The goal: raising $30,000 that the city will use to bring hungry herds of goats to come eat all the local wild brush. Why now? The winter season is the best time to get the work done. But California wildfires are a threat every season. So they have no time to waste. Senum said, “We can go out and pursue grants but that takes months, and we don’t have months.” Just 200 goats can clear the brush off an entire acre of land every day.
So we’ll have to see how this goat program goes. Not to be gruff, but they’re the best, cheap option. Maybe you should goat fund yourself, too.
