Our Brains Now Have Half Again More Microplastics Since 9 Years Ago

IN JUST THE LAST 9 YEARS, OUR BRAINS HAVE HALF AGAIN MORE MICROPLASTICS STUCK IN THEM

Well, we knew microplastics were going to be a problem.  And some of us knew that they are already a problem but we don’t know all the particulars as to why and how.  And this news is certainly bad.  But we don’t really have too much of a clue as to how bad, why it’s bad, or what that will mean for our lives in the coming years.  Or months, even?  But researchers just published a brand spanking new study in Nature Medicine that found, among other things, that our brains not only have more microplastics than we thought, but half again more than we did just 9 years ago in 2016.

HALG AGAIN MORE MEANS A STAGGERING 50% MORE POLY GUNK CLOGGING YOUR NOGGIN’

Half again means 50% more.  Apparently, our brains are collecting way, way more microplastics than our other organs, to the tune of as much as 30 times more.  And this new study has the numbers, as it focused on the brain, liver and kidney tissue from deceased subjects.  And the microplastics they found in brain tissue was mostly nanoscale shards of polyethylene.  That poly word should sound familiar, as it comprises those plastic shopping bags you’ve used for years at the grocery store.  In other words, you’ve taken this brain and body pollutant home every week, for years.

NOT SURPRISINGLY, BRAIN SAMPLES FROM PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA HAD EVEN MORE MICROPLASTICS

And not to draw lines of causality and relation (just yet), but the study found particularly higher concentrations of polyethylene in the brain tissue samples of people with dementia.  To spell that out, people with dementia had more microplastics in their brains than other people.  But no one wants to say the obvious likely truth out loud: microplastics probably drastically increase the risk of dementia.  And who knows what else.  But no one is saying this yet.  Because when they do, it will open Pandora’s Box about what else we need to know about the dangers of microplastics.

And apparently, our brains in the last 9 years collected a lot more microplastics than before.  And until we know more and take action, it’s going to get worse.
