Body Shaming Plus-Size in Online Marketplace with Hosiery

ONLINE MARKETPLACE SHAMING WITH HOSIERY

The beauty industry seems to have taken big steps when it comes to becoming more inclusive.  This is especially true when it comes to body size.  The curvy girl has been gaining popularity. Partly this is because of some great celebrities who make it look good.   But there have been setbacks.  And the latest one is ridiculous!  A hosiery line on an online marketplace called Wish totally messed up and is upsetting plus-size individuals. It’s totally body shaming and is not at all okay.

PLUS-SIZE WOMEN ARE ANGRY

Right now Wish advertises skinny models getting into (feet to chin) in plus-size tights. The skinny girls are stretching the fabric while living in the fabric. But people are unhappy with this ad campaign.  They’re going to Twitter and letting it be known that they are pissed. Would plus-size individuals actually wear this hosiery?  Probably not. Because it is extremely degrading.  Women come in all shapes and sizes.  Why does this keep happening?  Because idiots think beauty is about skin and bones.  Well, at least in advertising.

BODY SHAMING, RECYCLING PHOTOS FOR MONEY

Apparently, the photos were originally used for a different online ad campaign.  It was one that focused on indestructible tights. So the original focus was to show the robustness and not the size.  But now people are questioning the merchants at Wish.  Why would they choose to use such pictures when advertising to plus-size individuals?  It seems to have happened before by a seller on Amazon.  Degrading plus-size women via hosiery is body shaming to the max.  But it happens, over and over again.  Why?

BRANDS THAT PROMOTE ACCEPTANCE AND CONFIDENCE

There are other brands, such as ‘just my size’, who advertise bodies by promoting confidence and acceptance.  They celebrate.  They don’t shame. Other lovely hosiery for plus-size women are: We Love Color, Torrid, and Berkshire. Hosiery sold in an online-marketplace should promote beauty and confidence.  No degrading of plus-size women is necessary.  And how does that work, anyway?  Aren’t plus-size women the largest market in the West?  Why piss off millions of women?  Maybe it’s just tradition.  And it’s time to break tradition.
