CASE STUDY FINDS BMW DRIVERS MUCH MORE LIKELY TO BE ASSH0LES
So we’ve all been there. You’re driving your car around. It could be over a coiuple days. Or even one! And you realize, everyone who drives that kind of car is a total assh0le. But it turns out, you just might be right! And now, we can say with all the authority from science that this is true of BMW drivers. That’s right, BMW drivers are more likely to be assh0les than people who drive other cars. Sure, we all make assumptions. I certainly do. Teslas, Mercedes, Audis, and yes, BMWs seem to often have assh0le drivers. But I have to say, as a New Yorker I think that for all New Jersey plates!
BUT IT’S NOT JUST BMW DRIVERS! IT’S DRIVERS OF ALL EXPENSIVE CARS
So is this fair? Hardly. I’m sure there are BMW drivers reading this right now who say it’s not. They may even be right, in terms of the reader. But a study from the University of Nevada went into the details on this one. And yes, it’s not just BMW drivers that are likelier assh0les. It’s all expensive car owners. So what else is new? Well, this study is what. For every grand you drop on your fancy car, the chance you’ll stop for a pedestrian drops 3%.
WHAT DO YOU DRIVE? ARE YOU EVEN AWARE YOU MAY BE AS ASSH0OLE TOO?
So how did they come up with these figures on BMW assh0les? Well, they did a case study, of course. They filmed a crosswalk and had volunteers cross, hundreds of times. But the film showed the goods. They just looked at what drivers in various kinds of cars would do. So sure, that doesn’t seem scientific. But it is. Their theory is that “Disengagement and a lower ability to interpret thoughts and feelings of others along with feelings of entitlement and narcissism may lead to a lack of empathy for pedestrians.” Hmm. A stretch? Maybe. But a Helsinki study discovered the same thing about BMW drivers.
So what do you drive? Are you an assh0le?
