Birth Control Gel For Men Works A Lot Faster Than Expected

NEW BIRTH CONTROL GEL FOR MEN ACTUALLY WORKS A LOT FASTER THAN EXPECTED

I heard about this new, male birth control gel and then promptly forgot about it.  But I’m kind of out of the market for using such a thing at this point.  But the very idea of an effective male birth control of any kind has long been a hopeful fantasy for many, with cause.  And apparently, this new gel that prevents men from fertilizing women’s eggs, totally works.  In fact, it works a lot faster than anyone expected.

GEL SUPPRESSES, LOWERS SPERM COUNT, WHICH COULD BE A GAME CHANGER FOR FAMILY PLANNING

In research that came out this week the new male birth control gel, NES/T, starts to suppress male fertility in just a matter of a few weeks.  And it’s not too much of an invasive process to use it.  Certainly nothing like an IUD or the like.  All a man has to do is apply the gel to his shoulders, once a day.  So what is NES/T?  It’s made up of two primary ingredients, nestorone and testosterone.  Nestorone is a synthetic (aka, man-made) type of progesterone.  When used on a man’s system, it decreases the hormones that make a man fertile.  That means much lower sperm counts.

TESTOSTERONE IS A KEY COMPONENT TO COUNTER NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS, LIKE NO LIBIDO

So that makes sense.  But why testosterone as well?  Because the nestorone decreases testosterone levels in a man’s blood.  That means lowered libido, muscle mass, etc.  So the testosterone in the gel is there to offset those side effects.  Otherwise, why have a male birth control when he no longer wants to, or is able to, have sex?  NES/T is now in it’s Phase IIB trial, involving about 400 couples.  So far, the numbers indicate that the gel is more effective even than birth control for women.

So this is pretty good news, and should change things moving forward for the better.  Fingers crossed there’re no side effects to scare off already flighty men who don’t think it’s manly to use such a thing, never mind a condom.
