Birth Control Jewelry for Woman Almost a Real Thing

WOMEN CAN SOON WEAR JEWELRY AS BIRTH CONTROL

Birth control.  We all know what that is.  So sure, maybe we all don’t agree about it.  But almost everyone who doesn’t want to immediately or randomly become a parent uses it.  There are all sorts.  Condoms, pills, IUDs, etc.  Sometimes, we even hear about birth control for men to take (besides condoms, obviously).  But birth control for women may be a lot easier to deal with.  How?  Birth control that a woman can wear like jewelry.  Well, actually, as jewelry.  Doesn’t that sound like a great idea?  Of course it does.  But that’s because it is.

CONTRACEPTIVE JEWELRY COULD BE HUGE BOON FOR WOMEN IN CONSERVATIVE COMMUNITIES

So they recently published their work and goals in the Journal of Controlled Release (thank you, another amazing pun).  They explain in detail their goals of creating “pharmaceutical jewelry.”  So you’d wear an earring, ring, necklace or a wristwatch equipped with a transdermal patch.  The patch would deliver the contraceptive hormone, levonorgestrel.  So far today, most women get that hormone in pill form.  But besides the possible convenience, think about the freedom this would give women in conservative communities.  They could simply wear a pair of earrings, or any of the other possible jewelry options.  Sure, some crazy extreme types think earrings by themselves are a sign of “looseness.”  But they could just wear a necklace, out of sight.
