Big Mama Pet Chicken Gets Longer Obituary than Your Grandma

CHICKEN PET NAMED BIG MAMA GETS A LONG OBITUARY

What would you name your chicken, if you had one?  The people of Texas enjoy time with pets, especially one family who owned a pet chicken. A pet chicken named Big Mama. Sadly, Big Mama passed away this year, and the pet owners were very sad.  But in a way to lessen their pain and to commemorate her passing, they gave her a formal obituary in the Eagle newspaper. Big Mama would be proud (if she could read, but should couldn’t, basically because she was a chicken, a pet chicken named Big Mama).  She couldn’t type very well either.  She was the hunt and peck sort.

BIG MAMA HAS BEEN THROUGH A LOT AND SHE WAS LOVED AS EVIDENCE OF HER OBITUARY

She was a chicken who deserved an obituary.  She was a Rhode Island Red chicken who was loved by many. Poor Big Mama had been through a lot for a pet chicken. Her original owners lived in an apartment and decided that raising a chicken was too much trouble and they subsequently became bored of life with her. She’d never lived outdoors…until her new owners. They hooked her up instantly and gave her a second chance at a life as a pet chicken.  Not many chickens get to have this life. Especially with chicken food shortages in the world.  Think, home on the range.

Big Mama the pet chicken passed away in her sleep and the family who adopted her, the Sword family, was very sad to let her go. The Sword family expressed that through the obituary they were, “just hoping that the story of Big Mama will remind others that every life, even that of a pet chicken, is valuable and worth saving”.  Chickens are not just food to savor, they are complex creatures with an emotionally complex intelligence. One many of us would never comprehend. They can do many things, such as perform arithmetic, and purr like cats and not actually bock like a chicken. Chickens should be our friends and not fried, no matter how good they smell while being battered and fried.
