So fear is the mind killer. Well, one of them, anyway. But it is an ageless truth that fear makes people do stupid, even crazy things. And Coronavirus is no exception. Indeed, Covid-19 has opened quite the number of Pandora’s Boxes of late. And opportunists are feeding in a frenzy. At the top of that list? Donald Trump, who is a reactionary opportunist like no other. In fact, I’m not sure that Trump could have managed the Coronavirus outbreak any worse. Did I say managed? Sorry, make that present tense. Because Trump’s idiocy has helped. Because of that, a lot of Americans are gargling with bleach and misting their skin with disinfectant.

CDC TOOK A POLL THAT FOUND 39% OF AMERICANS GARGLING BLEACH AND MISTING POISONS
So what’s the big deal? If you’re asking that, stop watching far-right media, especially on Facebook. The CDC conducted a poll and found that an insane 39% of participants have either or both gargled with bleach, misted their skin with disinfectants. This stuff is POISON, people. Sure these things will kill almost all germs and bacteria, including Covid. But they will also poison you. Period. You could die, like fast or slow. But badly. The CDC conducted the study because poison centers across the US have seen a spike in calls because of this.

Gargling bleach shouldn’t need to be explained. It’s bleach! Just the fumes are dangerous. But most of the respondents were misting themselves with common household cleaners. And they were also intentionally inhaling their fumes! And, of course, gargling with bleach. Sigh. Donald Trump now says he was just kidding when he made these suggestions. But Americans are afraid and injuring themselves because of him. The CDC recommends that people pay follow evidence-based recommendations. It’s a damn shame the President doesn’t agree. Gargling bleach. What the hell is the world coming to?
