A New Beastmaster in the Works as Original Master Lost

REMEMBER THE BEASTMASTER?  ANOTHER IS ON THE WAY, BUT THE ORIGINAL MASTER REELS ARE LOST

So with kids these days, they probably have never heard of the movie Beastmaster.  It came out in 1982 which is, looking back, a long ass time ago.  But way back then, if you were a kid like I was, it was memorable.  I mean, really, that topless scene with Tonya Roberts gave me adolescent heart damage for quite some time.  But kids these days wouldn’t understand that.  The internet has already fried their brains with free porn.  But these same kids just might get to enjoy a new Beastmaster movie.  But this  news comes hand in hand with the tragic loss of the original film’s camera negative master.  So much for hi-def Marc Singer Abs and Tonya Roberts, well, everything.

THE BEASTMASTER IS A CLASSIC, EARLY 80’S FILM, SO YES, ANOTHER PLEASE

Camera negative, you ask?  You must be a kid these days.  That’s the master copy of the film.  So if you wanted to, say, create a Blu-Ray copy of the movie to remaster, you’d go to the master videotape.  And it’s lost!  I’ve never heard of such a thing.  Think of it this way.  Hundreds of people worked to make this original Beastmaster film.  And the pure letterbox copy is simply gone.  And while the movie is 80’s pure corn, the Director of Photography was none other than John Alcott.  You may know him from A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, or The Shining.

IDIOT TOOK BEASTMASTER MASTER REELS AND LEFT THEM IN HIS HOT GARAGE, SOLD THE HOUSE

So how the hell did this get lost?  Whoever owned the rights allowed their lawyer to take the Beastmaster, um, master, out of its climate-controlled storage in Hollywood.  So where did he put it?  In his garage in the San Fernando Valley!  Just the heat in there would degrade the film.  Then, the damn fool lawyer moved out, sold the house and left the Beastmaster master there!  It’s…. gone.  So yes, the hunt is on for another copy, somewhere.  Maybe it’s in your garage?  Hopefully in a cold climate?
