BBC cameras were rolling in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, filming for a new documentary called “The Street.” In the process of interviewing a homeless street performer, the performer was assaulted by two Scottish men.
During filming, the camera crew caught Glaswegian nightclub bouncer Francis Muir and an another unidentified male attacking the Angolan-born man, known as Melo, labeling him a “black bastard.” Muir went on to claim Melo and other immigrants like him were “milking our country for thousands,” while he himself pays “hundreds of pounds [in taxes] to keep you in the fucking country.”

As Muir continues his racist, anti-immigrant tirade, his companion tries to attack Melo. As Melo attempts to defend himself, passersby and later the police come to Melo’s aid.
Arrested towards the end of the video, Muir was later convicted of racially aggravated assault and jailed for a total of 10 months. His conviction and sentencing also reflected the guilty verdict over a separate incident involving abuse of a female Asian police officer while out on bail.
The episode featuring the attack aired last night, and the BBC revealed this morning that around 348,000 people tuned in.

The British tabloid The Daily Record contacted Muir following the incident. Muir told the paper that he’s “actually a really nice guy. Just ask anyone who knows me. I’m not a racist.”
He went on to say that “I had just split with my wife and had been drinking that day from 8 a.m. until I was arrested at about 11 p.m. I was very drunk and had been drinking Budweiser and Aftershocks all day.”
Lovely. Says Scottish Bureau of Tourism: “Thanks a lot, dick.”
