ASHTON KUTCHER REALLY WANTS US TO KNOW HE’S A TECHIE

Celebrity Ashton Kutcher used the “celebrity” part of his name once more to land a pretty plum gig as a “product engineer” for Chinese company Lenovo, which, if you haven’t heard of it before, is a company that makes things that are technological. Reporting™.

Kutcher is actually really good at tech investing and promotion: he was an early investor in Foursquare, AirBnb and Uber, among others. He also has the jawline of a Greek god and the abs of gay Jesus. The former “Dude, Where’s My Car?” actor ain’t stupid: he studied biochemical engineering at the University of Iowa before heading to LA to become an actor.

Unlike BlackBerry’s odd pairing with celebrity spokeswoman Alicia Keys, Kutcher may actually be doing something productive with the company and may actually know what he’s talking about. A celebrity spokesperson for Nikon for several years and an established tech guru in his own right, he’s mostly concentrating on the usability of Lenovo’s Yoga Tablet, which is essentially an Android iPad. If he can convince millions of people to switch loyalty from Apple to Android, so be it: it takes someone with as big a name as Kutcher to be able to turn the tides … or does it? Kutcher’s “Jobs” movie was a massive box office bomb, but his performance wasn’t terrible. Perhaps he’s adept at playing a good role in a sinking ship? I mean, dude is on “Two and a Half Men,” one of the worst shows of all time (in a survey recently taken with two people, one of whom is me), so maybe he’s just great at turning sh*tty water into sh*tty wine. Kutcher may be making the best out of a weird gig: tech companies are raking in billions of dollars making similar products to one another.

Lenovo’s recent Yoga Tablet has been getting great reviews, so maybe this is all a great idea after all.

“If you look at my career, what’s constant is I like to take risks — so does Lenovo,” Kutcher said at a recent press conference, before adding, “Lenovo is all about innovation and strong leadership,” which in no way wasn’t written in some sort of press release and handed to him along with a suitcase full of cash 20 minutes before the event.
