NASA AND THE CSA ANNOUNCE THESE 4 ASTRONAUTS WILL GO TO THE MOON ON ARTEMIS II MISSION
Space is, still, the final frontier. And despite the fact that it has been 50 long years since any human has gone to the moon, the Artemis II Mission is only starting to create some real buzz. But now that NASA and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) have identified the 4 astronauts who will be going to the Moon next year, that is sure to start changing. It seems that a lot of folks are glued to reality TV and political reporting these days. But Artemis II is really happening! And we are sending human beings back to the Moon in November, 2024.
ARTEMIS II WON’T INCLUDE THE LUNAR SURFACE, BUT ARTEMIS III IN THE WORKS SHORTLY AFTER
The 4 Astronauts who will be going to the Moon are Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist 1 Christina Hammock Koch, and Mission Specialist 2 Jeremy Hansen. This group includes the first woman, first person of color, and the first Canadian ever to go to the Moon. But it’s worth noting that this Lunar mission will not actually touch down on the moon. It will take the 4 beyond the moon, possibly further away from the planet Earth than any humans have ever gone before. But another Lunar mission is in the works for a few years later, where there will be yet another small step for mankind on the Moon’s surface.
ARTEMIS II IS THE FIRST LUNAR MISSION IN HALF A CENTURY, SENDING ANY HUMAN TO THE MOON
How has it been 50 years since since Artemis I, and humans haven’t managed to send anyone that far into space or to the Moon with all our new technology? There are a myriad of answers to those questions, the least of which is available funding for NASA and the administrative guts to take the risks to get it done. But here we are! At last. So start planning your thematic Thanksgiving celebration in just over 18 months! We’re going to the Moon yet again, and it is sure to capture the imaginations of adults and children across the world.
