In Arizona, Fraudsters Stole $2.5 Billion of Native Health Funds

SOMEHOW, ARIZONA FRAUDSTERS STOLE $2.5 BILLION IN NATIVE AMERICAN HEALTH FUNDS

Well, this is embarrassing for Arizona.  And that’s an understatement akin to saying settlers just moved into the New World a few hundred years ago.  And while that’s totally true, the New World has seen so many atrocities committed against the native people that it’s hard to comprehend them all.  But in America, there’s a new item to add to the list that’s pretty much staggering.  And Arizona should be embarrassed, as should every other state in the Union of historic injustice against the native people here.  And this time?  Somehow fraudsters managed to steal a whopping $2.5 billion of native health funds.

The theft (well, this theft) happened between 2019 and 2023.  And the funds were from a pool of money dedicated to paying for Native Americans needing treatment for addiction.  If you remember some of your grade school history, you already know that many indigenous peoples are genetically susceptible to near instant addiction, with alcohol being the most easily accessed in North America.  And who were the fraudsters who stole all this money in under 4 years?  Behavioral health providers and sober living homes, who billed Medicaid all of this money for addiction services that never happened.

HOW IS IT THAT ONLY $125 MILLION HAS BEEN RECOVERED, AND ARE AUTHORITIES EVEN STILL LOOKING?

Even more disgusting, some of the nefarious facilities let their Native American patients continue to consume alcohol and or other addicting substances while they made fraudulent money to help them.  And while it’s good that we know about this incredible scheme now and the state of Arizona has arrested more than 100 fraudsters so far, there’s a glaring issue still to be resolved.  Because of the $2.5 billion dollars stolen, authorities have to date only managed to recover $125 million of it.  So, Arizona, where’s the still missing $2.375 billion of Native American addiction treatment funds?  Because someone knows, and they’re not telling.

Arizona should be embarrassed.  And someone (say, like the Feds?) needs to get to the bottom of this.
