Animal Shelter’s Black Friday Special Promotes Adoption of Cats

BLACK FRIDAY IS THE CRAZIEST DAY

Black Friday is the craziest shopping day of the year.  People have actually died in various altercations around the world.  Everyone remembers that in 2011, a girl was trampled in a Walmart. It can be sometimes so wild and vexing that fights break out and people even get shot dead. But regardless of the history and warnings, people still venture out shopping in the madness.  To help make things better, we now have Cat Friday at your local animal shelter.

CAT FRIDAY, A SWEETER AND GENTLER TRADITION

Luckily the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals starting a sweeter and gentler tradition. Instead of “Black Friday” they started “Cat Friday”.  The nonprofit started celebrating this day in 2011.  Ironically, it was the same year that poor girl got trampled in a Big Box store. But on this day, the ASPCA waves all adoption fees for cats and kittens at their New York City adoption centers.

CATS HELP LOWER YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE

Instead of raising your blood pressure on the day after Thanksgiving, the day after eating rich and starchy foods, why don’t you do the absolute opposite?  Research, according to Karen Allen at the University of New York at Buffalo, indicates that cat owners have significantly lower blood pressure and hypertension.  Having a cat also improves morale.  Having a cat could literally make you a happier person.  And don’t we all just want to be happy?  That’s what Cat Friday is all about.

DOGS DON’T COMPETE FOR LESS STRESS

You may also wonder if this applies to dog owners.  Unfortunately, this is not the case.  Because dogs will love you no matter how stressed and nasty you are.  Cats on the other hand hide from mean people, so basically you have to be nice.  Cats make people more compassionate.  Owning a cat also makes you take better care of yourself because you have to be there for your cat.  If you are passed out somewhere, your cat isn’t being taken care of and you probably aren’t taking the best care of yourself.

CHECK OUT YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER

This isn’t the only nonprofit taking part in helping people commit to a healthier and more loving life by adopting a cat.  Check out your local animal shelter to see if they are participating.  They may be waving all fees or asking for a gift in kind.  What better way to start the holiday season?  Start it with saving a precious cat or kitten!  It’s worth a look, as every Friday could be Cat Friday.
