NO MATTER HOW MANY SHOOTINGS WE HAVE IN AMERICA, WE CAN’T GET ANY GUN REGULATION AT ALL
So we’ve been hearing about a LOT of gun violence in the news in recent weeks. Mass shootings, isolated shootings, moments of passion shootings and, of course, suicides. But suicides, of course don’t get too much coverage unless that person kills a lot of other people first, like at the Federal Express in Indianapolis. But no matter how many mass shootings we have in America, we don’t get any gun regulation laws. Like, ANY. How is that possible? It’s only here, or in 3rd world or war torn places, that is true. And, to be sure, not all 3rd world countries are as violent as America. So why is it like this here?
THERE’S BIG MONEY AND POLITICS AGAINST ANY GUN REGULATION, BUT IT’S WORSE THAN THAT
Well, politics and money are the easy answer. Selling guns is big, big money. In fact, gun sales went way, way up when Americans elected a black man as President. Not once, but twice! And the pandemic isn’t making insecure people feel any less fear, that’s for sure. But politics and money tend to have a constant, circular relationship. And with gun regulation, or the lack thereof, that’s even more of a constant truth. Sure, there’s the NRA, which is in some ugly trouble. But the NRA’s future, or lack of one, hasn’t changed a damn thing yet.

EVERY MASS SHOOTING BRINGS CALLS FOR GUN REGULATION, WHICH IN TURN ONLY SELLS MORE GUNS
But mass shootings are good for the gun selling business, if you can believe it. Just think about it. The gun industry has blocked all gun regulation that comes up, every time. But every time there’s a mass shooting, EVERYONE talks about guns. So what does that cause? Well, the people who love buying guns get scared they won’t be able to soon. So what do they do? They run out and buy more guns! Really. Gun sales go up after every mass shooting. Or, after everyone else freaks out and says we finally need gun regulation.

But the problem? It’s still, somehow, a debate in America. And until we break the glass ceiling, that debate just…. sells more guns. And I managed not to talk about Republicans even once writing this! Damn, or did I?
