It was very much expected that celebrities were going to bring a little of the wild factor to the 2014 American Music Awards red carpet Sunday night. It is the perfect time to start polishing their style sense for the upcoming awards season, so why not give your stylist a day off, and show to the world that you really understand fashion and style. I only wish that would be true.

Yes, I get that fashion and style are supposed to be fun, especially when music is involved, but people in general and a great deal of celebrities forget that there is a reason why “dress your age” exists. It is all very simple to me; a beautiful gown will look a certain way on a 20-year-old and totally different on a 40-year-old woman. It is the attitude, and sometimes the body shape, that will carry that dress — otherwise the dress will carry you. If you don’t agree about dressing your age, then at your next school reunion, please wear Daisy Dukes and good luck.

The main trend at the AMAs was the high slit, which defined the “high-fashion” from the “high-slut” look; the latter being completely honored by Bleona Qereti, and she was not even wearing a high slit. Why did she even bother to get dressed? Rihanna did it better, who once took lessons from Cher, who started it all. I could write a book on how Star Jones was dressed, but I better not. The vision of a sock peeking out of open-toed gold sandals on a red carpet is reason enough to bring Joan Rivers back to life, but when this sock is been worn by Diana Ross, of course it makes it all right because “The Boss” is the only one who can carry it, especially when she is also wearing a cloak made of feathers … Nothing made sense, but Diana can carry it like a true star.

I would be forever thankful if anyone could introduce me to Taylor Swift‘s stylist. Taylor never misses a beat on or off stage. She looked amazingly beautiful on the red carpet in Michael Kors and even insanely glamorous while performing her new single, “Blank Space.” The girl knows what she is doing, and that’s why she was named New York City’s Global Welcome Ambassador — just saying!
